Kilrush, Co. Clare
The Parkinson family arrived in Co. Clare in the mid to late 1700s, with one branch associated with living at Broomhill House, Kilrush. Broomhill House, built 1680, has been described as being 'very old, built before the town of Kilrush' [Source: Hugh Weir]. Prior to Robert Parkinson occupying Broomhill, the house and lands at Moyne were in occupation by the Comyn family (Lawrence & Jane) with the following notices, including the will of Lawrence, dated 23 May 1800:
Limerick Gazette 25 December 1807. Marriage. A few days ago at Garruragh, County Clare, William Borough Esq., of the Royal Navy to Miss Comyn, daughter of Lawrence Comyn, Esq., of Broom-hill in said county.
Limerick Gazette 06 December 1808. Death. Last Thursday at Broomhill, County Clare, Lawrence Comyn, ESQ., attorney at law - he was considered one of the ablest agents in the kingdom of splendid abilities and great acquirements, which rendered his death a loss to society, and a subject of regret to his family and friends.
The following Parkinsons' are of Kilrush, Co. Clare.
1 Robert Parkinson (1777 - 1841) of Broomhill House, Kilrush and later of Moyne, Kilrush. It is unclear of Robert's origins, or move to Clare, however, prior to the move to Broomhill, Robert was resident or came into the possession of lands at Tullycrine and Leadmore, Kilrush, Co. Clare, possibly through the marriage with Elizabeth Butler in 1797. In 1807 (Ref: Registry of Deeds 607-137-415431) Robert Parkinson demised lands to Michael Brew of Leadmore, Kilrush. Robert is referenced in 1814, as occupying Broomhill House [Leets Directory 2nd Ed, 1814], possibly in lease from Nicholas Comyn, son of Lawrence, and by the Griffith Evaluation of 1855, the house occupied by John Kelly, who held it from Colonel Crofton M Vandeleur, Kilrush. Robert Parkinson had moved to Moyne, Kilrush. Deed as follows:
Reg. of Deeds 607-137-415431. Reg’d 22 Feb 1809 by Michael Brew. Lease dated 16 April 1807 whereby Robert Parkinson of Tullycrine Co. Clare, gent, demised rset to Michael Brew of Leadmore Co. Clare, gent, that part of the lands of Carhnecalla, alias Carnacalla then in possession of Thomas Brew, Jonathan Brew & Michael Brew, sons of Francis Brew, containing 12.5 acres situate in parish of Kilrush, Co. Clare. To hold to Michael Brew from 25 March, part for term of 25 years, provided Parkinson’s interest so long continue at £10 yearly rent.

It is unclear if Susanna is the sister of Francis and Thomas Pilkington of Gowerhall, but highly probable. Rev. John Butler (son of Theobald Butler & Helena O'Shaughnessy, born c1741), vicar of Kilmurry, Clonderlaw, Clare, married Susanna Pilkington (b. c1753, of Gowerhass, Ballykett) on the 7th of July 1774, Killaloe Diocese, MLB (Ref: Clanchy's Marriage Index 1894 - 1966).
