William Heafey. (Spelt Heafey) William was a boot and shoemaker in Dublin, born about 1842.  He died in 1906, Dublin.  William married Mary Anne Roche (1837 - 1893) and had the following known children:

Witnesses were Hamilton Bailie and his wife Sarah.  Ann is a relation to Hamilton Bailie, whose family stem from Co. Down, where two brothers, John Bailie and Edward Bailie, inherited, Inishargy and Ringdufferin, Co. Down.  The Bailie's were merchants, aldermen and Hans Bailie (1700 - 1777) was Lord Mayor of Dublin. A James Bailie, son of John Bailie, married Ann Hall and benefited from the patronage of the Hamilton family. On Hamilton Bailie's death in 1785,

St. Paul's COI and St. Mary's COI (North King Street), were originally part of St. Michan's, which was reduced in size to make way for the newer parishes.  The original St. Paul's Church had it last service in 1821, before it was replaced with a newer church in 1824. In 1987, St. Paul closed its doors and the services transferred back to St. Michan's.   

St. Michan's COI, current church dates to 1686 and a chapel has been on the site since the year 1095 (Norse Chapel). An organ dating from 1724 exists inside, in which it is said, was used by Handel to have composed his Messiah.  

St. Werburgh COI, Dublin, had an original church on the site since the year 1178. It was named after St. Wherburgh, and is located close to Dublin Castle. The church was replaced in 1719, however was damaged by fire, in 1754 and reopened again in 1759. In the 18th century, it became well associated with prominent public figures, with when the British Lord Lieutenant had his own viceregal pew inserted in 1767. 

St. Peter's Church COI, Dublin, no longer in existence and was demolished in 1983. It was built on the land formerly belonging to the Whitefriars and it served as the largest COI parish in Dublin. St. Peter's was enlarged in 1773 and rebuilt in a gothic style in 1867. It grew into the largest parish in Dublin and also became the burial ground for the Huguenot community. The remains of the Huguenot were transferred to St. Jerome's Cemetry (Harold's Cross, South Dublin) in the 1980s, when the land and site were being redeveloped. 

HEAPHY OF EFFIN/NEWPARK, LIMERICK

A Heaphy family established themselves at Ballymacshaneboy and Effin, Limerick, connected to O'Brien, Magner, Ryan, Rourke, and Carroll. It is currently unclear if this family relates to John Heaphy, who married Margaret O'Brien in 1742, perhaps descendants from his first marriage? Newpark & Ballmacshaneboy, electoral division of Ballymacshaneboy, in the parish of Effin, Limerick, including the districts of Ballyorgan and Kilfinnane.  Holmes of Maiden Hall (Robert Holmes m. Mary Green, dau of John Green of Effin/Newpark and later of Graige, Limerick. Maiden Hall of Newpark, Effin, occupied by Robert Holmes in 1837 and by Mrs. Susan Holmes in 1850. Susan had held the property from Rev. Benjamin Bradshaw, the same Bradshaw family that had married into the Green family - later in 1799, John Heaphy m. Frances Green) and Bailey of Newpark, were the two major seats for the area. These townlands border with County Cork and are a short distance from the town of Charleville, Cork.   

1 John Heaphy, (c1800 - 1877) John married Elizabeth Magner (born c.1812, died 1885, of Ballyshonakin, Effin) on the 25 Jan 1846. Witnesses: Daniel Heaphy & Michael Magner. John had lived at Newpark, referenced in the Tithe Applotment Books of 1828 and later in the townland of Ballyymachaneboy, bordering, Newpark, referenced in the Valuation Office Books of 1849 and Griffith Valuation of 1852. 

The father of John Heaphy is possibly William Heaphy (b.1785), as recorded in the Effin Graveyard as follows: 

Erected by John Heaphy in memory of his father, William Heaphy, who dept life March 27th 1835, aged 50 yrs. May his soul rest in peace, amen.

Married James O’Rourke (b. 1844 - brother to Catherine O’Rourke, who married Matthew Heaphy) on 10 February 1872.  Elizabeth was of Ballymacshaneboy, Limerick, at the time of her marriage. Witnesses: Gerald O'Rourke & John Heaphy.  Eliza Heaphy O’Rourke died on 05 May 1873. Children:

2 Matthew Heaphy, born 1804, married Margaret O’Brien (b. c1820), sister of William, John, Denis & Timothy O’Brien (of Ballyshonakin, Effin), on the 13 Feb 1847, Effin, RC. Witnesses: William O'Brien and Ellena Heaphy. Matthew Heaphy is mentioned in the will of William O'Brien (Margaret's brother) of Ballyshonakin, Limerick, in 1882, where he is bequeathed £250 (value approx. €45k, 2026).  Referenced in the Ireland Valuation Office for 1849 & 1850, Newpark and Griffith's Valuation of 1852.  Matthew Heaphy died in 1884, aged 80 years. This fee simple estate was put for sale in 15 lots on the 22nd ult, when two of the lots were adjourned owning to insufficient bidding. Michael Magner died on the 05 January 1891, of Knockanevin, Killmallock, Limerick, age recorded 69 years, with his son, John present. Children:

Bridget Heaphy is referenced in 1849 & 1851, Ireland Valuation Office Books for Newpark, Limerick and in the Griffith Valuation of 1852 for Newpark.  Bridget is possibly the wife of Maurice Heaphy, who had died by the valuation dates. Maurice Heaphy had a son named Matthew Heaphy, who died in 1813, aged 8 years. Bridget may also have been the wife of Daniel Heaphy, mentioned above.  There is a reference to a "widow" Heaphy in the Tithe Applotment Books of 1828, where she held 37 acres. The "widow" Heaphy, may also have been the mother of Matthew, John, Elizabeth, Ellena and Catherine, mentioned above. 

This line revolves around James Heaphy of Patrickswell, Adare, Limerick.    

James Heaphy, born 1781, married Mary Reidy/Ready. James appears in the RC parish of Lurriga (Pubblebrien, Patrickswell), until 1824, for the birth of his son, John Heaphy.  By 1825, James has moved to Adare as this is where the records now are. Also by 1825, we can see he is located in Adare as per the "Irish Reproductive Loan Fund."  Later records in 1848, shows that James has a house, stable and yard, in the townland of Blackabbey, Adare, taken from Lord Dunraven and his occupation is a cooper.  By 1851, James is still living at Main Street, Blackabbey, Adare. James died on the 01 of October 1866, Adare, aged 85 years. James appears to have been the only Heaphy of Adare - perhaps moving into the area.  

James Heaphy, is referenced as sponsor with Johanna Enright for the birth of Stephen, son of Stephen Gavin & Sara Enright, 11 Jan 1833, Adare.

He served in Ireland, with campaigns, Frontier of India (1897-98) and South Africa (1899 - 1903). Medals: India Medal of 1895 with clasps, Punjab; Frontier 1897-98 Samana 1897.

Service No: 2042. Robert was a baker/merchant in Cappoquin, Waterford and later Clonakilty, Cork. Robert married Elizabeth Flynn O'Connell on the 13 May 1886, Cappoquin, Lismore, Waterford. Elizabeth is the daughter of Charles O'Connell, of Waterford.  Elizabeth had died before 1911. Robert and Elizabeth had the following children:

Kilrush 

John Heaphy, of Kilrush, with an unknown origin line. John Heaphy born about 1800 or earlier. It is suggested that it is this, John Heaphy who was a teacher, or it may be the second John Heaphy of Kilrush below, who is referenced in the "Accounts and Papers, Volume 19", by Great Britain, Parliament, House of Commons for the Operation of Schools, for half year ending, 31st of March 1853. John Heaphy, Principal, Kilrush, parish.  John Heaphy is also referenced as a lecturer of the Kilrush Literary and Scientific Institute. 

The Limerick Reporter and the Tipperary Vindicator, April 14, 1854: Mr. John Heaphy lectured last Thursday evening before a numerous and respectable auditory, composed of both sexes, in the rooms of the Kilrush Literary and Scientific Institute, of which a body, he is a member - (the article continues). 

Mr. Heaphy's lecture was on "heat" and there was about 260 people in attendance (Clare History: Kilrush). In the Freeman's Journal of 1837, at the Kilrush Petty Sessions, there is a case referenced as "Heaphy's Dilemma". Opening as follows:

This was a demand for 12 5s, wages advanced to Mr. O'Sullivan, a "learned Theban", who first saw the light in the far famed "Kingdom of Kerry," against a brother chip, a Mr. J Heaphy; both gentlemen professed themselves teachers of elocution, mathematics, algebra, geometry, and all the other interesting requirements which generally constitute the bill of fare of country pedagogues - (The article continues). 

Records have also been found that shows John Heaphy, is principle and the wage received for is position. John married Honora Mary Lynch (1800 - 1870). Known children of John and Honora Heaphy:

Passenger record lists, show that Martin Heaphy, left Ireland on the vessel ariel - ref: Passenger Lists of Vessels Arriving at Atlantic and Gulf Coast Ports (Excluding New York), 1820-1874, arriving in New York, U.S. on the 22 May 1850. His occupation was victualler.  Children of Martin and Mary McMahon:

Records for the children are from the 1860, 1880 and 1900, US Census  records. Per the 1900 census, records, Ann Fitzerald Heaphy is a widow and Martin Heaphy, her brother in-law is living with them. 

iii Michael Heaphy, born 1823 (Ref: My Heritage, McCarthy/Foley).  It is possible that Michael, immigrated to the U.S. with his brothers. 

iv Thomas Heaphy, born about 1824. It is possible that Thomas, immigrated to the U.S. with his brothers.  

Honora Heaphy, is referenced as sponsor at various baptisms.  This is probably the wife of John Heaphy (Honora Mary Lynch (Heaphy)) or alternatively, she could be his daughter that has not been accounted for. 

Records for this family seem to disappear from Clare following the 1850s and there is a possibly the entire branch moved to the U.S. or Canada.

Robert Heaphy of Kilrush, and it is suggested that he and his siblings originate from Shanagolden/Rathkeale, County Limerick. It is unclear but likely that Robert is a brother to the John Heaphy (b. c1800) above. 

Robert Heaphy, born about 1804, and had been in Shanagolden, Limerick, for the birth of his first two children. Robert married Mary Mahoney, and the couple moved or returned to Kilrush, Co. Clare, sometime between 1827 and 1829.  Robert was a school teacher in Kilrush by 1846.

i Robert Heaphy, baptised 10th May 1825, Shanagolden, Limerick. This Robert died young. 

ii Mary Heaphy, baptised 24th Jan 1827, Shanagolden, Limerick. Mary is referenced on the 18 March 1854 in the Kilrush Union Board of Guardians - Minute Book. Mary Heaphy, was a candidate for a role of an infirmary nurse. 

iii Ellen Heaphy, baptised 14 Sep 1829, Kilrush, Clare, RC. Sponsors: Martin Mahoney and Margaret Mahoney. Ellen was a sponsor for Rachel Walshire on the 27 Aug 1854, daughter of David Walshire & Margaret Hynes.   Walshire is a name with very few references in Ireland.  It is unknown who he was and it is suggested he went to the U.S. 

iv Robert Heaphy (1834 - 1894). Baptised 24 May 1834, Kilrush, Clare, RC. Sponsors: Robert & Peggy McInerney. Robert was a National school teacher and he married Margaret Mary Glynn, (National School Teacher) born 1835, on the 09 Feb 1861. Witnesses: Thomas Glynn and Catherine Glynn. Margaret Glynn Heaphy died after 1911.  The majority of Robert's children below were primary school teachers. 

Robert Heaphy was the first cousin of Kate (Catherine) Mahoney (niece of his mother), wife of Roger Meagher (Maher).  Rodger and Kate were the parents of the Honourable John Meagher (1836 - 1920), successful merchant, JP and politician of Bathurst, Sydney, Australia. John was also honoured by Pope Leo XIII with the dignity of Knight Commander of St. Gregory the Great. On his death, there were provisions in his will for his Heaphy cousins, children of Robert Heaphy, of Ballynacally. Read more on John Meagher.

Ellen Heaphy, born about 1805, possibly sister of Robert Heaphy above.  Ellen married Eugene Hynes (Shanagolden, Limerick) and they had a son, John Hynes, baptised 08.02.1829, Shanagolden, Limerick (Sponsors: John Heaphy & Catherine Fitzgerald). Ellen may have stayed in Shanagolden, Limerick.

John Heaphy (b. c1819 - ?) is the third early Heaphy member of Kilrush and it is unclear if he is a brother to Robert Heaphy above, or what his connection is to the first John Heaphy (B.c1800). John married Margaret Cartney (1817 - 1851) in 1840, COI, referenced in the Killaloe Marriage Licence Bonds. His wife, Margaret died on the 07 Nov 1851 and is buried in the Kilrush COI. The fact that this is a COI wedding raises further questions as to his origins.  The children from this marriage were raised as Catholic:

Again for this family, there are no further records in Clare, following the 1850s.  It may also be the case they immigrated to the U.S. and Canada.    

The following marriage record I received many years ago, and it refers to Kilrush COI. It is possible that this might be a first marriage for John Heaphy, before his marriage to Margaret Cartney. It is also a COI wedding with his children registered in the COI registers. 

John Heaphy married Mary Williams (See Williams Family) on the 23 January 1830, COI, Kilrush, with the following known children:

i Henry Heaphy - baptised 13 August 1830, Kilrush COI

ii Anne Heaphy - baptised 17 February 1832, Kilrush COI

At present there is no further reference to the children, Henry & Anne Heaphy. 

Note: Mary Daly, daughter of Jane Parkinson, daughter of Robert Parkinson, Broomhill House, Kilrush, married Richard Williams in 1878, son of John Williams of Carnacalla, Carnanes, Kilrush. Related? - it is possible that John Williams and Mary Williams, who married John Heaphy, are siblings. 

Jane Parkinson, is also the step sister of William Henry Parkinson, who married Elizabeth Heaphy, in 1878, daughter of Eyre Heaphy (Clarina Branch) & Jane Brew. There was an earlier marriage in 1778, where Jonathon Brew married Ann Williams, daughter of John Williams, Clarefield, Kilrush. Francis Brew of Newtown House, married Sarah Brew of Carnanes, Kilrush in 1825, and a William Brew (1762 – 1818) married Rachel Pilkington and lived at Carnanes, Kilrush, father of Rachel Brew who married George Parkinson, Kilrush; father of Sarah Brew, who married Francis Brew of Newtown House, Kilrush; father of Catherine Brew, who married Thomas Studdert of Dangnelly House.  See Brew Family for more.

Sixmilebridge/O'Callaghan Mills

The origin of these lines below are unknown, however it is very likely they originated from Limerick and may be part of the Parteen branch below.   

Thomas Heaphy, born about 1813, a shoe maker, referenced by Slater's Directory 1870, lived at Sixmilebridge. Thomas married Margaret McNamara on 23 Nov 1836, Sixmilebridge. Witnesses: Matthew McNamara and Dionosio (Denis) Markham.  Thomas is also referenced in the Griffith Valuation, in 1855. Thomas died before 1891. Children: 

i Martin Heaphy, baptised, 12 Nov 1840. Sponsors: Thomas Gorman and Jeuita Hogan. 

ii Bridget Heaphy, baptised, 26 Jun 1853. Sponsors: Lane McGregor and John Egan. 

Dominic Heaphy, a shoe maker lived in the parish of Kilkishen, Tulla, O'Callaghan Mills. It is unclear what relation if any, Dominic is to Thomas of Sixmilebridge. Dominic married Mary McNamara on the 24 Jan 1857, Kilkishen, O'Callaghan Mills. Witnesses: John Cuneen and Bridget Hargrove. Dominic has also been referenced in the court registers to being in Sixmilebridge in 1855 and Newmarket-on-Fergus in 1859.  Referenced in the Clare Electoral Registers for Inchiquin in 1862. Dominic died before 1901.  Children:

Hermitage estate is situated over looking the falls of Doonass, Parteen, Co Clare.  Currently only Dominic Heaphy has been discovered - the shoemaker in Sixmilebridge - unless it is him or his father?  

There is also a mention of a Richard Heaphy, referenced as a witness to a court case in Newmarket-on-Fergus on the 29 Jan 1847.

Origins are most likely of Limerick with Patrick and Laurence Heaphy, possibly brothers having baptism records at St. Patrick's of Parteen/Meelick/Limerick City.

The following, James, Bridget, Patrick, Catherine (Kitty), Matthew and Michael Heaphy, are possible siblings, born between 1810 - 1820 and lived at Parteen/Meelick, Ballyglass - Clare/Limerick. There is a strong connection here somewhere to the family of Ryan. It is unclear how these siblings/cousins might be related to Patrick & Laurence - are they the fathers?  

James Heaphy, born about 1815, of Parteen, Killaloe (Ballyglass).  James married Mary Hogan, from Cloncloher, on the 25 Jul 1838 (Ref Clare Marriages Grooms). Witnesses, Kitty Heaphy and Patrick Ryan. James died before 1901. Children:

It is a possibility, that Michael Heaphy, is the same Michael Heaphy, as below, who married a second time and moved to Ennis OR is the same Michael Heaphy, mentioned under Parteen/Meelick, who was a referenced in the baptism in 1839.  There is a reference in the Limerick Chronicle of 1845 to Michael Heaphy, Gardener:

Michael Heaphy (1812 - 1885), lived on the Mall, Market Street, Ennis. He was a butcher and shop owner. Michael married Margaret Morrissey (1817 - 1897) on 23 December 1843, Ennis. Witness: Michael Halpin. Michael is referenced in Slater's directory of 1846 and in the Griffith Valuation, 1855. Children: 

i Michael Heaphy, baptised 16 Jul 1849, Drumcliff, Ennis. Sponsors: Pat Considine & Maria Morrissey. Died 1867, Ennis. 

ii Bridget Heaphy, born, 05 Mar 1855, Ennis. Died 26 Feb 1890, aged 30. Not married.

These Clare lines are very broken and fragmented. As mentioned earlier, it is unclear of the origin lines, but very likely they all oringinate from Limerick city or county. 

Edward Heafey, born c1835, with the name spelt as Heafey, perhaps based on how it was written and recorded. Variations of the spelling have been Heafy/Heaphy, etc. However as the family seemed to have used the Heafey spelling, and therefore, it will be recorded as such. 

Edward Heafey was a sergeant in the 13th regiment and served in the British Army. The main active battalions served overseas in India, South Africa, and Mauritius during the 1860s. Edward married Catherine O'Donohoe (c1840 - 1914. Born Kerry) on the 26 January 1855, St. Patrick's Cork City. Address given for both is Barrackton, near Military Barracks. On the marriage record, Edward is noted as being of the 59th Regiment, so had already been part of the British Army. The 59th (2nd Nottinghamshire) Regiment of Foot was an infantry regiment of the British Army that spent a portion of its earlier history performing garrison duties in Ireland, including Cork, and maintained discharge and military records there into the 1850s, though the active regiment itself was stationed in China and Asia during that decade. 

This Edward, is very likely the same Edward Heaphy (spelt Heaphy), who was born in Limerick in about 1835. Edward married Kate from Cork.  Their children, Mary "A" (b.1861) and John (b.1863) born in the Cape of Good Hope. Their son, Edward was born, Chatham, Kent, in 1858. Patrick, was born in Portland, Dorset, in 1868. No children referenced in the census of UK. 1871. Who is this Edward and is he a connection to the Clarina Heaphy Branch - given that Sgt. Joseph Heaphy (b.1837) of about the same age also served in the Cape of Good Hope and James Heaphy (b.1840) had a son named Edward? 

British Army Service Records show that Edward Heafey of Regiment 13th Foot, was in receipt of payment in 1882, James Street, Dublin. According to British Army records, he was discharged on the 13 January 1885, with rank of Sergeant and Roll No: 4377. Would this be the same Edward, or would it be his own son, Edward, born 1858? 

British Army records have an Edward Heaphy, applying in 1865, however, there is very little else recorded on the records. Caution is required here, as there is another Edward Heaphy, born Blackrock Cork, 1840, who volunteered in 1855, service no: 20287. 

Edward, along with his wife, Catherine and daughter, Catherine, journeyed to Massachusetts, Boston, US in 1896, to visit his son, John. Edward Heafey had died by 1901 and his wife Catherine along with her son, Patrick are living at Woodquay, Dublin as per the 1901 census. 

Edward and Catherine had the following children: 

i Mary Jane Heafey. Of Marshalsea Barracks, Mary Jane Heafey married George Sullivan, soldier, of the 95th Regiment based in the Curragh Camp, Kildare, on the 18 February 1880, COI, Parish of St. Catherine, Dublin. Witnesses: Joseph Pegley (George) & Lizzie Ward (Mary). George was the son of George Sullivan (sailor). Mary's father at the time of her marriage was a Sergeant in the Dublin Light Infantry. Mary Jane Heafey is recorded as a minor at the time of her marriage. 

ii Edward Heafey. British Army Records show that Edwdard wad born in 1858, Brompton Barracks, Chatham, Kent, England of the 59th Regiment. Nothing else at present has been found on this Edward, unless records show a cross over between him and his father. 

iii Patrick Heafey. Born 1868, possibly in England. It is very likely that Patrick joined the Royal Dublin Fuisliers like other family members as the British Army Records show attestation date of 18 August 1882, with a birth date given for 1868, Chatham, England. Further records for March 1900, show Patrick attestation date for the 10th Regiment Reserve. He is still part of the Royal Dublin Fuisliers. 

Patrick travelled to Boston, US in 1894 and is recorded as a musician. He was in Ireland in 1892 for the marriage of his brother, and in 1903 for the marriage of his sister Catherine. As per the 1901 census, Patrick is living with his mother, Catherine, at Woodquay, Dublin and he is not married. 

iv John Heafey. Born 1871, possibly in England.  Moved to Boston, US. 

v Thomas Heafey (1872 - 1942) Born in Dungarvan, Waterford, he was firstly a soldier with the British Army and later a Superintendent in Dublin. Thomas Heafey was discharged from the Royal Dublin Fusiliers with Service No: 3786, Colour Sergeant in 1909 (Ref: British Army Service Records).  Following his retirement, he was manager of WD Laundry, Dublin. He married Bridget Dwyer (b.1871, of Kildare) on the 07 February 1892, in the district of Blessington, Naas, Kildare. Witnesses: Patrick Heafey & Mary Carroll. Bridget was the daughter of James Dwyer.  

Irish Independent. Thursday, 3 December 1942. Mr. Thomas Heafey, Superintendent of the St. Vincent de Paul Night Shelter for Men, Back Lane, Dublin, since 1923, who has died, was a native of this city. He served in the Royal Dublin Fusiliers for several years attaining the rank of Sergeant-Major, and for about fifteen years was Superintendent of the Military Laundry Parkgate. Children of Thomas and Bridget:  

Edward P Heafey (1892 - 1957). Edward's middle initial is sometimes referred to as F and others as P. He was born in Naas, Kildare. He served in the 1st Royal Irish Fusiliers, British Army, before taking over from his father as Superintendent in Dublin. Edward was born, 1892, Co. Kildare, Ireland. He moved to Devon, England and lived part of his life there. According to the 1921 UK Census, Edward was at the Grand Shaft Barracks, Dover, and was married, with his place of birth given as Ballymore, Co. Kildare, Ireland. He served in the British Army Infantry with rank of Sergeant.  By the 1939 UK Register, he had became an insurance collector.  He married Bessie T A Potter, (born 1898, Torquay, Devon) in Newton Abbot, Devon, England in 1917, COE.  Edward died in Dublin in 1957 as did his wife, Bessie in 1949. 

Dublin Evening Mail. Thursday, 13 January 1949. LATE MRS. HEAFEY. The death took place yesterday at her residence Superintendent's House, St. Vincent de Paul Night Shelter, Back Lane, Dublin, of Mrs Bessie Heafey, who was a native of Torquay, came to Dublin six years ago when her husband took up the appointment that his father had held for the previous twenty years. She was held in the highest esteem for her unfailing qualities and cheerfulness and benevolence and give invaluable assistance in the running of the shelter. For some time past she has been in failing health. She leaves two sons and two daughters. The remains will be removed this evening to St. Audeon's Church, High Street, and the funeral will take place to Blackhorse Avenue Cemetery after 10 o'clock mass tomorrow. 

Following the death of Bessie, Edward F Heafey married (second) to Nora Maher on the 12 October 1949, Church of St. Paul, Dublin. Nora was the daughter of James Maher. Witnesses: Harrold Murray & Margaret Cabana (Edward's daughter). Nora continued to work at St. Vincent de Paul, becoming Matron. There is a write up about her in the Irish Times, Monday, 31 October 1966 - Mrs. Nora Heafey.  Nora Heaphy, Matron, died on the 4th November 1971, Dublin. 

Dublin Evening Mail. Monday. 23 September 1957. DEATH OF MR. EDWARD F HEAFEY. The death took place in the early hours of this morning of Mr. F. Heafey, who was for sixteen years resident Superintendent of St. Vincent de Paul Night Shelter, Back Lane, Dublin. Aged 64, he was the son of the former superintendent of the night Shelter and succeeded his father after a career in the British Army in which he saw service in France during the First Great War. He was badly gassed and never fully recovered from that experienced. He had been unwell for sometime. Mr. Heafey was held in the highest esteem for his absolute integrity and diligent discharge of his manifold duties. He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters. The funeral will take place on Wednesday after Requiem Mass at 9 o'clock in the Oratory of the Night Shelter.

• Dorothy M Heafey, born 1919, Newton Abbot, Devon, England. Dorothy married Horace F C Bradford in 1939, Newton Abbot, Devon, England. 

Today Express and South Devon Echo, Monday 28 August 1939. Wedding at Torquay Catholic Church. Mr. Horace Bradford, the only son of Mr and Mrs Bradford of Torquay, was married to Miss Dorothy Heafey, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Heafey of Dublin and Torquay, at the Church of Assumption Abbey-Road, Torquay, today. Rev. Father Higgins officiated. Given away by her father, the bride wore a sea-blue two piece and navy hat with shoes and gloves to tone and a spray of carnations. The bridesmaid, Miss Margaret Heafey (sister of the bride) was attired in a dusty pink sand-crepe dress, brown hat, shoes and gloves to tone. She wore a spray of pink carnations and a gold chain and crucifix, her present from the bridegroom. Mr. H. Price was best man.

• Margaret B Heafey, born Torquay, England in 1923. Margaret married Gerald R Cabana in Newton Abbot, Devon, England in 1942. 

• Kenneth P Heafey, born Torquay, England in 1927. Kenneth married Lilian Hennell  in Newton Abbot, Devon, England in 1949. Kenneth died on the 30 March 2016, aged 89, Torquay, Devon, England. 

According to the 1939 UK Register, the family were still living in Torquay, however it was shortly after this that Edward F and his wife Bessie moved to Dublin to take up the position at the St. Vincent's de Paul Night Shelter from Thomas Heafey when he died in 1942. 

Bridget Heafey. Born in Naas, Kildare in 1893. Died 16 August 1909, National Children's Hospital. 

Kathleen Heafey. Born in Naas, Kildare, in 1895. Kathleen married Edward McNulty, a soldier, on the 02 January 1919, Church of Aughim Street, Dublin, RC. Witnesses: Patricia Heafey & Florence Heafey, sisters to Kathleen. Edward was the son of Thomas McNulty and at the time of his marriage was at Government Laundry, Parkgate, Dublin. 

Florence E Heafey. Born in 1898, Aldershot, England. A School Mistress. Florence married John Ernest Edwards Q.M.S, on the 15 of August 1921, Church of Aughrim Street, RC. Witnesses: Whesles Elridge & Mildred Heafey (sister). John at the time of his marriage was based at the Curragh, and was the son of Alfred Edwards, Civil Servant.

Thomas Joseph Heafey. Born in Dublin, in 1899. Died 17 March 1907, Barracks, Dublin. 

Albert Edward Heafey. Born in Dublin, in 1901. Albert moved to Torquay, Devon, England. He was a Private in the First Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers in 1922, stationed at Shroncliffe, Devon. Albert married Charlotte E Brinkworth, Dover, England in 1923. Albert died in 1960, Dover, England. Known children: 

• Albert J Heafey, born 1925, Elham, Kent, England, who married Gloria E Gurr, in 1956, Dover, England. Albert died in 1990 (Ref: Folkestone Herald). Children: Paul, Kevin, Brian and Janet Heafey. 

Victor Joseph Heafey. (1903 - 1970). Born in Dublin. Victor is recorded as a student in the Inchicore Infant Model, at St. Judes, Dublin in 1908 (Ref: Roll No. 6980). In the 1911 census of Ireland, he is recorded as living with his family at Portobello Barracks, Dublin. Victor served as Private in the 11th Btn, R.F., Royal Army Service Corps, England, recorded in the 1921 Census of England. Victor died at Islington, London in 1970 (Ref: England & Wales Deaths). It is unknown if Victor was married. 

Mildred Madeline Heafey. Born in 1906, Dublin. Mildred married Ronald Scanes, on the 20 September 1938, Church of Finglas, Dublin, RC. Witnesses: Patrick Lane & Patricia Heaphy, sister. Ronald Scanes, bookkeeper at time of his marriage, was the son of Daniel Scanes, Tea Taster. Children: 

• Finola F M Scanes, born 1940, Dublin South 

• Ronald H Scanes, born 1945, Dublin South. 

Mildred and Ronald, moved to England and Mildred Heafey Scanes died at Ipswich, London in 1986. 

Patricia Eileen Heafey. Born 1907, Dublin.  She did not married.  Patricia was a Dublin actress and may have died in 1997, Essex, England (Ref: Patricia Eileen Heafey).

vi Catherine Heafey. Born 1875, England. Travelled to Boston with her parents to visit her brother, John in 1896.  Catherine, of 20 Summerhill, married Arthur John Southey, a solider, on the 16 December 1903, St. Mary's Pro-Cathedral, Dublin. Arthur, from Dover, England was the son of Isaac Southey and Esther Dornew. It is possible the couple moved to England following 1906.  Known children:
