He married Ellen Edith Warren, born 1864, Dublin City, daughter of William Warren, on the 18.03.1886, COI, Dublin North. Ellen Edith died in 1914, Limerick City. By the 1901 census, the family had moved to Limerick city. John and Ellen had the following children:
i John Cox B. 11.08.1888. Married. Died 02.11.1966, Limerick City. Retired clerk at Matterson's. John married Mildred Esther Parkinson, daughter of John George Parkinson, on the 19 August 1919, Kilflynn, Parish of Tralee, Kerry, COI, by licence. John and Mildred had the following known children:
Edith Amelia Cox, born 20.06.1920, Limerick. Edith married Robert Ernest Morley (b.29.05.1917, Teacher), son of Robert James Morley (Business man) on the 02 June 1945, Trinity Church, by licence, COI, Limerick. Robert Morley died on the 05 October 1946.
(Child) Cox, registered on 18.04.1922. Died at birth.
ii Mary Anne Cox B. 16.12.1893. Did not marry.
iii Ellen Edith Cox B. 21.01.1894. (Twin) Ellen married George Mortimer Heaphy, son of John Eyre Heaphy, on the 25.07.1923 in St. Munchins, COI, Limerick City. Witnesses to the wedding were her brother, John Cox, a steward, Joseph Callandan and her sister, Elizabeth Austin Cox and Frances Warrington. [See Heaphy Family Page]. Ellen and George M Heaphy moved to Cambridge England. Ellen died between July and September 1928. Children:

iv Elizabeth Austin Cox B. 21.01.1894. (Twin) Married Edward McBirney on the 10.06.1931 at St. Munchins, COI, Limerick City. Elizabeth died in 1961, with her sister, Mary Cox, present. No known children.
